@norma Thanks for stopping by. PW Forest is my local park so I hike there a lot and always bring my camera. My Gallery has two other trips to the park and one of these days I will get around to posting "archive" photos from hiking over several years. It was great to finally get out into the park during winter a snow fall.

Actually Tab told me about your yearly photo contest for the annual park pass. I will have to look into that and submit a photo or two.

@mani moon I am the photographer as well as the hiker/story teller. This little guy was just sitting on this rock in the middle of the trail. I have updated the description. I bet you get tired of people making the mistake I did. Thanks so much for the information and correcting me.

this post is in reference to the last picture named cat_mountain_aug_2009-13 titled “a small frog”. your photograph, please excuse my presumption if you are not the photographer, illustrates a “toad”. frogs live in water or very near water, toads only need bodies of water for breading. note the cranial crest and warty appearance of the animal. frogs lack the crest and have smooth skin, both advantageous attributes for a life of swimming.

I found it while doing a Google Maps search for hotels near Waikiki beach. It listed several and I started to read the reviews. Unfortunately Hotel Renew was not listed. One website kept popping up with reviews, Trip Advisor. They have a list of their top rated hotels for Honolulu and Hotel Renew are rated #1. After seeing the rating and reading a lot of the glowing reviews, renovating the hotel in 2007 also helped, we decided to book our stay here. Price pretty reasonable, would have loved an ocean view, but settled for city. The last time I went to Honolulu stayed at the Waikiki Sand Villa for two nights (not bad, clean, but just a room far from the beach) and at the Waikiki Parc (nicer room, close to beach, but just felt out of place) for 4 more. Looking forward to staying at Hotel Renew for the 6 nights. Enjoy your vacation!

You will throroughly enjoy Hotel Renew. I am going the this month from Los Angeles for a mini break and expect great weather and the ultimate in customer pampering. How did you find this place? We manage their web site and have only heard good things are about the staff and property. Mahalo! Tom
